ECOLE DE PARIS

Around the end of World War I in 1914, Paris became the art center of Europe, attracting a group of young artists from abroad who came here to find their own styles and ideas and engage in creation. Each has a different personality and unique style, and expresses inner feelings such as lyricism, longing for home, and sadness in their works. The things they touched in life made them familiar with each other and drew inspiration from each other. Their creative style became the well-known "ECOLE DE PARIS".

ECOLE DE PARIS of Painting has two broad and narrow meanings. Broadly speaking, it refers to the entire modern painting movement that developed with Paris as the center; including Fauvism, Cubism, Surrealism..., and the art movements in Paris to this day. However, what art historians call "Paris School" mostly refers to the expressive and sentimental style developed by painters who immigrated to Paris during World War I and in the 1920s after the war. Historians collectively refer to this painting style as the "ECOLE DE PARIS".
